Secure Lync for Outlook
The add-in puts two buttons in Outlook:
- Add to Rolodex saves the sender of the open email as a contact in your company's Rolodex.
- Save to Project copies the open email, and optionally its attachments, to a Secure Lync project so your whole team can see it.
The add-in is for company staff. Your company's administrator first needs to turn it on under Administrator > Tools > Outlook Sync.
Install it
- Microsoft 365 (Outlook on the web, new Outlook, Mac): in Outlook, open Get Add-ins (or Apps), search for Secure Lync, and click Add. Your IT administrator can also install it for everyone from the Microsoft 365 admin center.
- Desktop Outlook for Windows, any email account: sign in to Secure Lync, open your user menu, pick Connected Apps, and click Download for Windows. Run the file and restart Outlook.
Use it
- Open or select an email. The Secure Lync buttons are on the Home or Message ribbon (in Outlook on the web, under the Apps button). In desktop Outlook you can also right-click an email.
- The first time, click Sign in and sign in with your Secure Lync account. In desktop Outlook, a browser window opens; click Allow there.
- For Save to Project, search for the project, pick it, choose whether to include attachments, and click Save. The email appears in the project's Emails card.
Common questions
I don't see the buttons. In desktop Outlook, restart Outlook after installing, then check File > Options > Add-ins that "Secure Lync" is listed under active add-ins. In Microsoft 365, add-ins installed by an administrator can take a few hours to appear.
It says Outlook is turned off for my company. Ask your Secure Lync administrator to turn it on under Administrator > Tools > Outlook Sync.
Some attachments weren't saved. Very large attachments are skipped and the add-in tells you which ones. Save those to the project's documents from Secure Lync instead.
The email was already saved. Each email is saved to a project only once; saving it again does nothing.
Sign out or switch accounts. Click Sign out: on the Secure Lync ribbon in desktop Outlook, or at the bottom of the add-in pane in Outlook on the web.
Remove the add-in. Desktop: Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Secure Lync for Outlook > Uninstall. Microsoft 365: Get Add-ins > My add-ins, then remove Secure Lync. Removing the add-in doesn't delete emails already saved to projects.
Outlook calendar and contacts sync
Separately from the add-in, staff can connect their own Microsoft 365 or Outlook.com account under Connected Apps so their Secure Lync schedule and the company Rolodex stay in step with Outlook. Each person only ever syncs their own account, and can disconnect at any time from the same page.
